The history of the company dates back to 1887, when it was founded as the New York Iron Roofing and Corrugating Company. The total operation consisted of five thousand square foot fabricating shop in Jersey City, NJ. In 1958, the company was purchased by Edward S. Carlton. In 1971, Edward S. Carlton, Jr. succeeded his father as president of the company, and changed the name to Corrugated Metals, Incorporated. In the latter half of the 1970s the company expanded by opening a plant in Chicago, Illinois, and the company maintained a two facility operation throughout the 1980s. In 1991, CMI finally consolidated its entire operation in Chicago, were it is currently headquartered.
Corrugated Metals currently owns an eighty five thousand square foot production facility, which is equipped with ten ton cranes and heavy electric power for industrial manufacturing. The company owns and operates five roll forming production lines, which have excess production capacity to support increased sales.
CMI produces a variety of profiles, metal shapes, which are used primarily as industrial siding. The market being served is the new maintenance construction of industrial and commercial structures. Accordingly, the company markets and sells to general contractors, sub contractors, building maintenance end-users and steel distribution centers. Corrugated Metals sells its products nationwide.
